Cherry dresses for Elsa and kitty

I gave up sodas and Facebook for Lent, which has left me with an embarrassing surfeit of leisure time - and this weekend put some of that antsy pants-ness into sewing up a little dress for Elsa and then a little kitty doll with a matching dress.  It's great to have the sewing machine out and in use again and because it was Margaret's machine, I know she'd be glad too.  I feel a little guilty for not painting but one thing at a time, I guess!

The dress is from a McCall's pattern (M6387) and the kitty and her dress are my own creations.  I actually goofed on the bottom ruffle and cut only two pieces instead of three, so if you make this yourself (and do it properly), you'll get the ruffles you see in the pattern.  I decided to just leave it for this one (after grumbling at the thing with "why bother gathering this if it barely fits?!") and have new fabric (of course) for another one of these and plan to try it the ruffle-y way next time.

I'm signed up to take another "improvisational quilting" class next weekend at "A Verb for Keeping Warm" (which I've heard great things about) and am excited for that.  I hope they  will help me finish the first quilt I started - just figuring out the border and backing is making me a little crazy since I can't quite get my arms around it.

  1. I love what you are doing these days. The dress and doll are wonderful. Elsa will love them. You are so creative, Kate. I admire your FB decision... and I am glad you are still doing Foursquare so I can keep up with you.
